Lots of Fruit Smoothie

All begin with a base of:
1⁄2 c. plain, vanilla, or strawberry yogurt
1⁄4-1/2 c. milk then perhaps some fruit juice, usually orange or Dole specialty juices, 1⁄4-1/2c.
Followed by fruit in many varying combinations, always including either banana or melon.
1 banana
Handful frozen or fresh strawberries or blueberries
one 4-5″ wide slice out of a cantaloupe or honeydew melon
1 kiwi

Then I’d blend it till I was pleased with the result. I found that melon added a lot of sweetness and made a nice background taste. I don’t always use juice when I use the melon. We especially liked melon and blueberries, bananas and strawberries.

Here is a cool tip. Use your ice cube tray to make frozen juice cubes to use in your next yogurt smoothie recipe.

And also you can peel a banana and cut it into four or five pieces and place them into a freezer bag and store in the freezer to always have a smoothie ingredient on hand.

Remember to always add liquid ingredients first then yogurt and fruit and powders or supplements and ice last and you will have consistently great smoothies!

yogurt recipes please?

Chicken Tikka Masala

1 cup yogurt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground garam masala
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
3 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
4 long skewers

1 tablespoon butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons garam masala
2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

In a large bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, 2 teaspoons cumin, garam masala, cayenne, black pepper, ginger, and 4 teaspoons salt. Stir in chicken, cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Preheat a grill for high heat.
Lightly oil the grill grate. Thread chicken onto skewers, and discard marinade. Grill until juices run clear, about 5 minutes on each side.

Melt butter in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Saute garlic and jalapeno for 1 minute. Season with 2-teaspoons cumin, garam masala, paprika, and 1/2-teaspoons salt. Stir in tomato sauce and cream. Simmer on low heat until sauce thickens, about 20 minutes. Add grilled chicken, and simmer for 10 minutes. Transfer to a serving platter, and garnish with fresh cilantro.

Note: You can double the "sauce" if you like more sauce with your meal. Excellent served over rice.

Does anyone have any good frozen yogurt recipes?

We Answered:

I love this one - bit like frozen yogurt, a bit like icecream. You can put some chopped fruit in too or serve plain drizzled with honey. Omit the lemon zest if you don't like it, you can put in orange or lime zest .

450 g Greek yogurt - you need to strain it for a few hours or overnight in a sieve over a bowl in the fridge to get the excess liquid out.
150 g full fat cream (35% fat)
150 g confectioner’s/castor sugar
Grated zest of 1 lemon

Put the yogurt, cream and zest in the ice cream maker and turn it on - voila!

If you don't have an ice cream maker, mix everything by hand and place it in a metal container in the freezer. Mix it by hand six times, about once every half hour, over the course of the day.

Smoothie recipes with yogurt?

We Answered:

Basic Smoothie Info:
• All smoothies have a basic formula which is about ½ Liquid, ½ Solid
• Liquid should be Juice, Milk, Soymilk, or possibly Water ( water not recommended)
• Solids should be Frozen Fruit, Frozen Yogurt or Sherbet, Ice, or possibly Frozen Ice Cream (ice cream not recommended)
• Nutritional powders usually do not add volume, but some proteins will “expand smoothies”
• Fresh Fruit (not frozen) will blend up like a liquid (like fresh banana)
• Often times, milk and soymilk can be bland which means they may need a sweetener like honey, or possibly sugar ( sugar not recommended) For every 10 oz of milk, one oz of honey should be enough.
• Ice is not a necessary ingredient, and actually smoothies are more flavorful without ice, but some people prefer an icy texture. Ice should only be 20% of a smoothie maximum, otherwise the smoothie will taste “watered down” which means a sweetener will need to be added.
• If a smoothie appears to be “Too Thick”, keep adding liquid until the consistency is right.
• If a smoothie appears to be “Too Thin”, keep adding frozen fruit until the consistency is right.
• When you get your formula “Just Right”, make sure to write it down for next time.

Basic Dairy Smoothie Formula:
50% Liquid (fresh banana can be considered liquid)
20% Yogurt or Sherbet
20% Fruit
10% Ice

Basic Non-Dairy Smoothie Formula:
60% Liquid (fresh banana can be considered liquid)
30% Fruit
10% Ice

Other tips:
• For recommended smoothie formulas, go to http://www.xtremejuice.com , look up the smoothie ingredients, and apply them to the basic Dairy or Non-Dairy formulas.
• When buying juices, check the label. 100% Juices are the healthiest. Look for a brand called “Juicy Juice”, they make many flavors, and they are always 100%.
• If you like banana flavor, brown spotted bananas have the most flavor. That is why they are used in banana bread.
• If you freeze your fruit yourself, you may want to put it in a ziplock bag to avoid freezer burn. Also, frozen fruit is usually good for up to a year.
• If your water isn’t so great, consider using filtered water. This can make a difference in taste.
• The price of a blender can range from $30 to $1000. The best commercial blenders cost $1000, but they will blend around 80,000 times before having problems. The best blenders on the market in my opinion are made by Vita-Mix: http://www.vitamix.com
