Most recipes that call for sherry or brandy can take bourbon whiskey as a substitute.

Be sure to cook the alcohol off (takes a couple of minutes), and it won't taste like "feet".

There are some fun cocktails that don't taste really strong. Whiskey lends itself nicely with mixers. It's wonderful in eggnog. Also,many cakes and desserts are made with bourbon.

Thompson Seedless Raisins or Flame Seedless Raisins

Hazelnuts or Hickory Nuts coasely chopped

Preparation
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Butter 2 standard loaf pans. On a sheet of waxed paper, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg, and set aside. Cream the butter until soft and then cream in the sugars, a little at a time, until smooth. Beat the egg yolks; add to the butter mixture. Stir in the lemon juice.

Mix the currants, raisins, and nuts with the dry ingredients. Add to the batter, alternativing with the whiskey. Beat the egg whites with the salt until they form peaks. Gently but thoroughly fold into the batter.

Divide the batter between the prepared loaf pans. Bake for 2 hours, or until the cakes pull away from the sides of the pans.

A liquor store might have them. A place like Beverages & More has a whole rack of all kinds of mini bottles of alcohols. These are about $2 each, on average.

Or, you can get a half pint bottle at a liquor store for about $5, depending on the brand.

And, BTW there's not much difference between whiskey and bourbon, as far as cooking is concerned. That is, just go with the bourbon (a type of American whiskey).
