Introduction to the Tool Kit

The purpose of this tool kit is to assist you in raising and expanding the awareness about the health disparity in the minority community by initiating projects that come together under the banner of National Minority Health Month.

This tool kit was developed and is managed by Minority Health Communications, Inc., a minority owned publishing company in Washington DC. The company received assistance from the DHHS, Office of Minority Health. This company publishes a bimonthly journal called Minority Health Today, which serves as a tool for clinicians who treat minority patients in the United States. A sample of the journal can be viewed at www.nmhm.org.

The contents of the tool kit are service tools for the creation of a NMHM intervention in your community. Some of the information may seem very basic for those experienced in the work of coalition building and community advocacy.

Feel free to skip parts of the kit that are not relevant your community. Also, we welcome any innovative and exciting programs, thoughts or discoveries you have made while working with your community to eliminate the disparity.

We know and appreciate the huge struggle that is going on in our communities and we offer this kit as part of the solution. We also want this kit to serve as a source of recognition and celebration for your hard work and fortitude.
