Basic, crunchy, teeth cleaning dog biscuits



Ingredients:

1 cup wheat flour
1 cup all purpose flour
½ cup wheat germ
¼ cup nonfat milk powder
1 can chicken stock (low sodium recommended
3 tablespoons corn oil
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
¼ cup wheat germ for dredging biscuits



Directions:
Preheat oven to 200 ° C. and oil a large baking sheet. Combine the wheat and all purpose flour together with the wheat germ, milk powder. In another small bowl, mix stock and oil. Combine until well mixed. When all ingredients are thoroughly mixed, place dough on a dry slightly floured surface and begin kneading. Add all purpose flour as needed until the dough is easy to handle and soft. Take table spoon sized portions and roll them in the extra wheat germ, then place them on the oiled baking sheet with a gap of about 3 cm between them and squish each ball, with a fork, into a biscuit shape. Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes or until nicely browned. Turn off oven but leave the biscuits inside until completely hard. Keep the uneaten dog biscuits in airtight bags in the fridge or freezer.




Every Day Buiscuits (For Dogs)


2 teaspoons dry yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons dry parsley
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
3 tablespoons honey
1 egg
5-6 cups whole wheat flour



Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 ° F (180 ° C).

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in the parsley, broth, honey, and egg. Gradually blend in flour, adding enough to form a stiff dough.

Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Shape the dough into a ball, and roll to 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick. Using small bone-shaped cookie cutters, make biscuits! Transfer to ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 1/4 inch (6 mm) apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits.

Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and turn over. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until lightly browned on both sides. Let cool overnight. (After we finish baking all batches of biscuits, we turn off the oven, then spread all the biscuits out on one baking sheet and set them in the oven to cool overnight. The extra time in the oven as it cools off helps make the treats crispier and crunchier.)

Makes several dozen small bones that keep and freeze well. We like these biscuits because they're quick and easy and we always have the ingredients on hand to make them. Our boys like them because they're good!

We make our own chicken broth by boiling 1 pound of chicken in 8 cups of water, seasoned with 1 teaspoon thyme, 3 teaspoons parsley, 1 teaspoon celery seed, and one bay leaf, for 1 1/2 hours. Remove the chicken and use it for salads or other recipes that call for cooked chicken. Let the broth cool before using it in these recipes.

Here it is.
For best results use flat-leaf parsley.
INGREDIENTS

1 cup packed fresh parsley leaves from one large bunch, washed and dried
5 medium cloves garlic , peeled
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup red onion , finely minced
1 teaspoon table salt
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Process parsley and garlic in workbowl of food processor fitted with steel blade, stopping as necessary to scrape down sides of bowl with rubber spatula, until garlic and parsley are chopped fine (20 one-second pulses); transfer to medium bowl. Whisk in remaining ingredients until thoroughly blended. Spoon about 2 tablespoons over each steak and serve. (Sauce tastes best when used fresh but can be refrigerated, with plastic wrap pressed directly on surface, up to 3 days.)

My favorite site for this type of question is recipezaar.com. when searching under the ingredient 'parsley' (fresh bunch) I found 8,563 recipies. But my favorites are arabic dishes that use lots of parsley. Arabic salad, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, radishes, diced with parsley chopped fine. Add tehina if you like as well. Or falafal, or shish kobob meat balls...

Parsley is more of a garnish so it's used in many dishes rather than any one particular dish.

It's very often sprinkled on top of soups and sauce based dishes.

bn is an abbreviation for "bunch". When you buy fresh herbs, they're sold by the bunch or bundle.
