nutritional yeast flakes?

They taste alright, not super cheesy. I can sorrrttt of see what they are going for lol. They have a very hearty, nutty taste though. And it is very good for you (high in vitamins and minerals), so I recommend you at least pick some up and give them a try, especially if you are vegan, they have the B12 that is hard to get elsewhere. You can find lots of easy sauce recipes on the internet, or sprinkle them on veggies or popcorn (really yummy). Nutritional yeast is as easy to use as cheese, so if you found it easy to cook with cheese you will be fine.

Can I use Nutritional Yeast flakes in my red pasta sauce?

We Answered:

I would say about 1/4 - 1/2 cup. That should give you a nice cheese flava! Or you could always just sprinkle some on top of your pasta sauce before you eat it. That's what I do! :) GO VEGANS!

Nutritional Yeast Flakes?

We Answered:

I get mine from a lower shelf at Whole Foods in Cary, N.C.
The brand I use is Fortified Kal Nutritional Yeast Flakes. A container cost me about $15.00 and they usually last about 5 months. They have a taste that is nutty and similiar to powdered cheese. The advantage to using them is that you are guaranteed to absorb the b vitamins and amino acids found in the flakes. It's much better then trying to use vitamins.

I like to mix mine with other sauces, spinkle them on vegetables, make a broth with them, or stir them into kale, spinach and mushrooms or chard and mushrooms with garlic and scallions just to diversify the flavors in some of my dishes.

Brewer's yeast isn't used the same way that Nutritional yeast is. I believe it's mainly used for baking or fermenting.
