Liquid Smoke where to purchase?

We Answered:

I buy liquid smoke about twice a month. I always get it at Wal-Mart in the BBQ sauce section. It's next to the worchestire sauce etc. I like to use Colgin brand and it only costs 72 cents!

Marc Said:

Are there any pork recipes using hickory liquid smoke that you can think of? Any including bacon?

We Answered:

This is a wonderful comfort food. So easy to make! You could also make it in your crock-pot.

5 pounds pork butt roast
1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
2 1/2 tablespoons Hawaiian sea salt*, divided

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Rub liquid smoke and 1 1/2 tablespoons of the salt into the skin of the pork. Wrap well in foil, and seal completely. Place in a roasting pan.
Bake in preheated oven until an internal temperature of 160 degrees F (70 degrees C) is reached, about 5 hours. Remove from oven and let cool before shredding. Sprinkle the shredded meat with the remaining 1 tablespoon of salt.

*If Hawaiian sea salt is unavailable where you live, try other coarse salt, or kosher salt.

Mathew Said:

liquid smoke!??

We Answered:

It depends if you are going to grill or smoke something outside then no but if you are making something that requires for it and it is cooked in an oven then to get the desired flavor YES

Liquid Smoke is a food ingredient used to add a smokey flavor, similar to what is obtained when cooking over an open wood fire (see barbecue). The product is produced by burning hardwood chips (notably hickory) and condensing the smoke particles with water into a liquid form. The liquid is then scrubbed and filtered to remove all impurities. It is most often added to sauces and marinades to flavor meat, poultry, and seafood.

Whenever I cook with liquid smoke/eat anything where it is an ingredient, I get sick... any substitutes for it

We Answered:

Try adding a little bit of ground cumin and some chipotle chili seasoning. This adds a nice smoky flavor without the smoke. I have the same problem with liquid smoke and so does my dad!
