What does "Italian salad dressing, divided" mean in a recipe?

We Answered:

It means that you will use the dressing in one or more areas of the recipe, divided means they gave you the total amount needed, but you will need to separate it. In this case, I assume part will be a marinade

does anyone have a recipe for homemade Italian salad dressing?

We Answered:

Sure, here's my own recipe that I make all the time and I don't mean to sound boastful or cocky, but it's really good!

Grapeseed oil, salad oil, or light Olive Oil
Red Wine Vinegar or Balsamic, if you like
1-3 ratio (I part vinegar to 3 parts Oil)
thinly diced garlic and shallots (sauteed until clear in butter, drain and let cool)
Sea Salt, Ground Black Pepper
Freshly diced Basil, Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, Parsely (flat leaf or curly)
Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
Onion Powder
Grey Poupon

Put Vinegar into a large bowl, make sure it's stable on your counter (rubber bottomed bowl, or put a wet towl underneath it so it doesn't move around on you while whisking)
Put in your garlic, shallots, fresh herbs, onion powder, S&P, Red Pepper Flakes and a small amount of mustard.
Gently drizzle your Oil into the bowl, whisking the entire time until the dressing comes together. You will know this when the Vinegar and oil have stopped separating (the mustard is the binder here) and it's to your taste. Some people like a sharp taste (more vinegar) but you might like a 1-4 ratio, (1 part Vinegar, 4 parts oil), it also depends on what kind of oil or vinegar you are using as well.

So, let this set for about an hour in the refrigerator and taste it again. When you're making this for the first time, go easy on the seasonings, you can always add more to your liking, but trying to take the flavor OUT is another recipe. No, you can just always add more vinegar and oil if a seasoning is too strong. I personally go heavier on the Basil and Oregano, lighter on the Rosemary and Thyme, but thats what I like. Some additional ingredients I have added are Roasted Red Peppers, Sun Dried Tomatoes, finely diced pepperoncini and chives.

I hope this helps you to make your own fabulous dressing, without all of the sugars and preservatives that come in the bottled form!

Can you give me a recipe for Italian salad dressing that uses Balsamic Vinegar?

We Answered:

Honestly I just use Balsamic Vinegar, it tastes great! But I also mix it with some pepper. You can add any seasonings you like to taste. Also, my friend mixes the balsamic with regular vinegar then adds seasoning to taste
