Green Onion Recipes
Cassandra Said:Does anyone have the green onion dip recipe off the Ritz cracker box from this spring?
We Answered:1 package cream cheese
1 cup sour cream
1 envelope (Good Seasons) Italian salad dressing & recipe mix
5 green onions
1/3 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Place cream cheese, sour cream and dressing mix in food processor, set aside.
Finely chop enough of the onions to measure 1 tsp; reserve for garnish. Coarsely chop remaining onions. Add to food processor, process until well blended.
Transfer to medium serving bowl; stir in cheese. sprinkle with reseved onion. Cover.
Refrigerate several hours until chilled.
Serve with crackers.
Kim Said:I need some good recipes to make that contain no onion?
We Answered:Your friend sounds like me & my family. We hate onions, mushrooms, and peppers.
Go to www.kraftfoods.com and type in a main ingredient, such as ground beef, and then hundreds of recipes will pop up for you. I use that site all the time when I need something new.
A recipe that I cook frequently that my family loves is tator tot casserole. It takes about 15 min to prepare and feeds an army.
1 bag of frozen tator tots
1 can of cream of mushroom soup (plus one can of water or milk)
1 can of cream of chicken soup(plus one can of water or milk)
1 pound of ground beef
shredded cheddar cheese
1. Brown the ground beef, drain the fat.
2. cook the soups & water/milk together in a pan until hot.
3. Dump the ground beef into a 11*13 rectangular casserole dish, spread out evenly on the bottom.
4. Pour the soup over the hamburger.
5. Spread the bag of tots evenly over the soup& hamburger (it's ok if some of them sink down into the soup)
6. Bake according to the directions on the tator tots bag (I think it's 425 degrees) You'll have to bake a bit longer than the bag says.
About 20 min. before tots are brown, sprinkle the cheese over the tots (sprinkle as much or as little as you like)
You can also cook a meatloaf with no onions...that's easy.
Chili can be cooked without onions.
Sloppy Joe's don't have onions.
Grilled Chicken breasts (or baked) with steamed veggies have no onions.
Lasagna can be made without onions ( I never use onions and it tastes fine)
** We like the flavor of onions, but hate to eat them, so I use onion powder a lot if a recipe calls for onions.
Happy cooking! Try the Kraft website..it's great!
Marc Said:How much green onion do I need?
We Answered:1 green onion typically refers to just one stalk out of the bunch. If you are a salad eater they are excellent chopped up on salads but can be strong if there are too many of them. They also make an excellent tasty pairing with chicken noodle or any chicken stock based soup.
A good side would be an herb rice or brown rice or garlic mashed potatos. You can buy all of them in the grocery store basically premade, just follow the directions on the box.
Marjorie Said:Any delicious recipes that can be made using plenty of Green peppers and Onions?

Aaron Said:Good recipes for fresh (1) leeks; (2) green onions; and/or (3) beets?
We Answered:During the summer, I use leeks in place of onions in pretty much all my pasta recipes:
Lemon Basil Bowties
1 lb bowtie pasta, cooked and drained
1/4 c olive oil
2 leeks, white part only, washed, trimmed and sliced
4 oz pine nuts
1.5 c ricotta cheese
1/2 c fresh basil, chopped
grated peel of two lemons
juice from one lemon
saute leeks in olive oil for about 5 minutes, until they are translucent. toss remaining ingrediants with leeks.
and to use up some green onions:
1/4 c rice vinegar
2 T low sodium soy sauce
1 T sugar or splenda
2 t seasame oil
6-8 scallions, chopped
1 package (16oz) cole slaw mix
combine wet ingrediants and sugar, mix with veggies
you can also add in a peeled, seeded a chopped cucumber or two if you have them lying around
with the beets - i usually just peel them, chop in half, drizzle with olive oil and bake in the oven at 350 for about 45 minutes. we eat them over a green salad (once they have cooled)
Dwight Said:How do I cut a green onion? Need to know for tonight's dinner recipe.?
We Answered:Depends on what you want, you can cut the long green part in small pieces or long pieces, if you want a more oniony taste use the white part of the green onion, personally I prefer the green part, it has a delicious onion taste without being overwhelming. The lower (toward the white part) you go, the more onion taste you'll have.
