what is the difference between a korean pear and an asian pear?

We Answered:

Your friend is obviously lying to you. The Asian Pear is the same exact thing as the Korean Pear. They are just called differently from different parts of the earth.

how do you eat an asian pear?

We Answered:

I assume you mean one of those fruits they sell as an apple/pear.

I just slice them like an apple. I eat the skin too but you can remove the skin if you want

How do you grow an Asian Pear Tree from a clipping of the branch?

We Answered:

From Dirr's manual of woody plants
take firm cuttings
10,000 PPM IBA and 5000 PPM NAA quick dip
sitck in mix of bark and sand
put under mister
+++++
notes from me
always make the cutting just below a node.(leaf bud, lateral branch etc)

take a cutting from new growth that has hardened off a bit. NOt old wood that is totally hard, and not new fleshy growth.

cut a piece no thicker than your pinkie finger

if you don't have IBA and NAA, just get whatver rooting hormone you can find in your garden center and follow instructions

If you don't have a mister cover with plastic so it stays in humid. water but don't soak it. Try to achieve a balance of moist soil with some drops of humidity beading on the plastic above

after 4 weeks or so gently tug on it to see if there is resistance. if resistance that is good, let it go a few more weeks. When you know it is well rooted (donesn't pull out easilyi) transfer it to a pot.

Don't put outdoors till spring

Do a lot, you won't have 100% success. vary the size of the cuttings in terms of length and width of the piece. Do some experimenting of your own to learn what size type of cutting works.

Leonard Said:

How do I germinate my Asian Pear seeds?

We Answered:

Pears and apples are close relatives and have the same germinating and growing requirements.
Clean them to prevent mold. Dry for several days to weeks. Some people give them a chill like several weeks in the coldest part of the refrigerator. ( not the freezer). Plant in any decent potting mix and keep moist.
