Why is applesauce good for diarrhea, even though apples and apple juice are laxatives? We Answered:
the nurse is actually right. apple sauce contains pectin, which stabilizes food. it increases the volume of stool. for more information on it, look here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pectin

Why applesauce? I'm trying to make this cake for a microwave only mold and some recipes suggest applesauce. We Answered:
It's a way to keep your cake moist instead of using oil. It makes it "healthier" andl owers the fat content. I've done it for years (although never in a microwave - I don't own one!). You can use a number of differnt fruits and even some veggies for the same thing. I have a terrific chocolate cake recipe that calls for a massive amount of shredded zucchini! Mmmmm, delicious!Apples sauce and apple pie filling are NOT the same! Don't sub one for the other!

Applesauce?We Answered:
Some are chock full of sugar, which can eventually make one fat. There are several different varieties to try, stick with unsweetened NATURAL applesauce. That will carry the fewest calories, as there is no added sugar. Oh, and as far as the exercise thing goes...walk/run...push ups..sit ups. Good luck!Mae Said:
Can applesauce be used to bake a cake?We Answered:
You can sub equal parts applesauce for vegetable oil in a cake recipe... this greatly reduces the fat and calorie content of the final cake, too! This is a great muffin recipe, too, using applesauce!
BANANA CRUNCH MUFFINS
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 pound unsalted butter, melted and cooled
2 extra-large eggs
3/4 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (2 bananas)
1 cup aplesauce
1 cup small-diced walnuts
1 cup granola
1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
Dried banana chips, granola, or shredded coconut, optional
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line 18 large muffin cups with paper liners. Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add the melted butter and blend. Combine the eggs, milk, vanilla, and mashed bananas, and add them to the flour-and-butter mixture. Scrape the bowl and blend well. Don't overmix.
Fold the applesauce, walnuts, granola, and coconut into the batter. Spoon the batter into the paper liners, filling each 1 to the top. Top each muffin with dried banana chips, granola, or coconut, if desired. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the tops are brown and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool slightly, remove from the pan, and serve.
Daniel Said:
Is it ok to substitute applesauce for the eggs in brownie mix?We Answered:
I've substituted applesauce for eggs in a lot of my recipes. I usually use them in pancakes. It works quite well and gives a bit of a sweet flavor. I've never used it in a brownie mix before, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I usually use about 1/4 cup of applesauce per egg. I've only found one negativity with this substitution. It seems to make the food somewhat soft or gooey, if you will. Eggs hold the mixture together once it is baked; applesauce does this as well, but not as strongly. And yes, I believe you would still use the same amount of the other ingredients as well.
Hope this helps.
